Some call it a strange case of Stockholm Syndrome, I call it empowerment.
In my youth Food allergies were the source of many tears. I felt exiled in my small town with no one like me. I dreaded every meal out and my classmate’s birthdays. Now I embrace my anaphylaxis to eggs, nuts and peanuts. This differentiates myself from the other 96% of America and I am proud.
At the age of 11 I realized there was a large community of people like me when I won an essay contest and earned a spot to lobby representatives in Washington DC. This essay contest allowed me to meet kids from all over the US who suffered similar woes.
Since that time over a decade has passed and I’ve gained little nuggets of knowledge that has helped me both cope and thrive with allergies.
Follow me as I continue to fumble around the globe learning to feed myself and pontificate on all the important stuff.
See you on the trails,
Brandon A Carlson
